This painting features one of the workers at Wilkin’s Farmhouse Cider, at Mudgley in Somerset, collecting fallen cider apples prior to milling.  Damaged windfalls are still utilised in the production of cider, since all the fruit is crushed to extract the juice before production begins. I visited the farm, which boasts stunning views across the Somerset Levels towards Glastonbury and beyond, on a beautiful sunny autumnal day in mid-November.
