Limited edition print featuring a pair of male Black Grouse squaring up to each other on a Springtime lek. The original painting was inspired following an early morning census monitoring the number of lekking males on an area of moorland in North Wales. As I watched this pair and other males on this particular lekking arena, it became apparent that each male bird held its own ‘territory’ within the area of the lek itself, an invisible borderline that would be defended vigorously following the unwanted encroachment of a rival male.
